lately

Both of these books were gifted to us a couple of years ago before we even knew each other and we happened to start reading them at the same time without really realizing it. I've been in a reading rut for a while, so it's nice to have a story to look forward to when I go to bed.

Daphnie's been trying to recover from a UTI for several months. On a hike a while back, Scott called her "high maintenance," to which I got very offended. To me calling anyone/anything high maintenance is a huge insult. But then this week, as I switched her solid food to soft, added a second medication to her diet, carefully poured 1/2 a tablet of cranberry powder into her breakfast, collected her 4th urine sample of the year for the vet, and laid down a pee pad (every day before leaving the house) I said, "Wow Daphnie you're high maintenance!"

The art around the house has slowly been finding new homes on empty walls and this Panda is almost finished and will be for sale soon if anyone loves Pandas. (Who doesn't??) Also, Scott's current work for a show he'll be having on June 20th is quite obscure, clever, and borderline inappropriate. I love it.

I've been into watching a lot of early eighties films lately and falling asleep during everything. How have I lived this long and not watched Airplane??! THE BEST MOVIE. Also on the list has been High Fidelity, Pretty in Pink, and Naked Gun.

I've been getting really excited to see Sarah & Chase this week. I can't wait to show them around this little mountain town and take a mini road trip for a soak at my favorite hot springs. You might remember these two from my website. I photographed their amazingly intimate wedding in Columbus, Ohio two years ago. These photos above the day after their wedding in a local rose garden.

In February I bought Scott an Aeropress for coffee. It was part Valentines Day gift part "I'm leaving for Europe for two weeks" gift. It's basically all we make coffee with now. We've also been making and drinking a lot of margaritas. Like, a lot.

Happy Wednesday!

marigolds in May

One of my fondest memories from childhood all the way through high school is gardening with my mom. Every spring I think of her. Spring means waking up on weekend mornings to my mom blasting her Carol King "Tapestry" album loudly, soft pink bandana tied around her head, cleaning or making breakfast with the windows open. I think of lawn mowers buzzing, laundry on the line, and planning a flower bed with mom. My favorite part was going to the nursery to pick out the plants. We almost always got marigolds, petunias, pansies, and snapdragons (my favorite!) I remember filling the back of her mini van with pallets of color and getting home to feel like after all the money we spent, there wasn't much to show for it.

At our new house we have a covered patio. After not having a yard of any kind for the last two years, I was pretty excited to fix up our patio this spring for a relaxing hang out spot to have coffee in the morning, read, and host BBQs with friends. So on Saturday I bought a few flowers to add some color to the space. The entire time I was thinking of my mom, especially when I got home and it didn't look like much. Now I can't wait to add some seating and make a few plant hangers. I wish she could come for another visit. Afterall, the scent of the orange marigolds smelled like her and took me right back to our tiny house on Parkview Ave. in Duncan, OK., eating shaved ice on the porch swing after a long day of pulling weeds and playing in the dirt. Those were the days.
