claire!

It was only two short weeks ago that I left Claire at the airport after a wild week of wedding photography and adventuring in California and somehow, I'm already excited to see her again tonight! Claire is coming from Montana to Durango for a visit and will be assisting me for a wedding on Saturday (yay!) I can't wait. The photo below, taken on a random side street in San Fransisco, is one of the only pictures of her from our recent trip where she isn't avoiding the camera. For some reason, photographers are ironically camera shy. I'll be sharing pictures from Cali soon!

Lately I've been thinking non stop about the ocean. So much so that I spent an evening last week looking through pictures from the short time I lived in Florida in 2011. With surprisingly teary eyes I nostalgically picked out a few images that conveyed the mood I was craving, full of salt water, pink skies, brown bellies, and that sound when a wave crashes the shore. I need a vacation. I think this is because since June began, life has picked up it's pace and feels like the days of summer are already slipping quickly between my fingertips. When I look at my calendar this month is a blur to me. There are weddings (including a trip to San Fransisco to shoot with Claire!), two work trips for Scott, an extra member in our household, lots of dog sitting, big art shows to get ready for, work, and hopefully some time to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. It's not the ocean, but maybe the Animas river in Durango can curb some of my cravings. Until then, I'm going to leave you with some random photos from around the house this week as I go prepare for a wedding I'm shooting tomorrow! Happy Friday!

This week has been...interesting. I took on the responsibility of watching over my friends' two French bulldogs, Quasi and Uva. They snore all the time and look like little aliens. My dog, Daphnie, isn't a big fan, but she's quietly tolerating their weirdness until they leave Sunday. After a night of barking and a surprise pee on my boyfriend's brand new Osprey backpack, I think we are ready for a quiet house next week too.

We have a shared garden space with our landlords (master gardener extraordinaire.) They were kind enough to give us two raised beds which we filled with carrots, peppers, tomatoes, and herbs. What we couldn't fit in the raised beds we decided to put in pots on the patio. Scott is particularly excited about his peppers of all varieties. He said at some point he will play screaming death metal for them so they grow angry and hot. (And he most likely will.) This is why I adore him.

We eat tacos a lot. This night was particularly good, complete with grilled flank steak and watermelon sorbet!

CSArt Durango

You guys, I'm going to be on the radio this morning !! (That's Monday 4/14/2014 at 9:00 A.M. on KDUR)  I say this with excitement because I'm so ready to share with the community everything I can about CSArt Durango, but truly I'm nervous to be live on air! What is CSArt Durango?

CSArt Durango is a somewhat new concept in the art world. You've all probably heard of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), right? You buy a share from your local farmer, and for the entire growing season you and your family receive a box of vegetables every week. There is usually a "pick-up" day to receive your veggies, and at that time you get a chance to either go to the farm, or meet someone in town to get your produce. Either way, you are not only buying your vegetables for a good price (usually discounted from what you'd spend every Saturday at the Farmer's Market), but you're purchasing directly from the people who grow your food, and you can meet the farmers! It's a win win situation.

CSArt Durango works in a very similar way, except instead of buying into a share of food, you get art. And instead of meeting your local farmer, you get to meet the artists that are creating your art, talk to them about their creative process, and meet other people from the community at the pick-up parties throughout the season. Shares cost only $300 and you get eight pieces of art from eight unique artist. There are four pick-up events and at each event you get to meet 2 of the artists. I got chosen to be one of the eight artist for 2014 and I couldn't be more excited! In the running this year are a variety of artists: photographers, print makers, illustrators, sculptors, jewelers, and painters.

Visit the Studio& website for more detailed information and to purchase a share. And if you're on the fence about the price, consider buying a share with a group of four or eight friends. Each one of you could get one or two pieces of art for well under $100! And, the CSA is not limited to those living in Durango. We can ship art anywhere in the country!

Here are some photos from last year's CSArt pick-up parties, each one held at different locations all over town. And here is a recent article about the 2014 CSArt featured in the Durango Herald. And this article from the Telegraph for last year's first annual CSArt Durango.
